Advent Week 1
During the first week of Advent, we watch and pray, awaiting the Lord’s coming. As we enter the Church’s new year, cycle B, the season of Advent reminds us that we can look forward to and prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas. It is a season of so many things: of expectation, reflection, hope and trust. We are constantly in a state of expectation, always in advent, so much so that we can miss the present moment where, inevitably, God will be. We have to wait, and Advent reminds us that we are waiting for God. How strange it is to think that in a way God also waits. He always waits for us to come to him for he never forces himself on us, and when we do come to him, he is delighted and will give us many graces.
Grade 10 Graduation
On Thursday, 26th November, we farewelled our Grade 10 students from the College. The Graduation Mass and ceremony, which was attended only by students and staff due to Covid restrictions, was filmed and uploaded for families to view later that evening. Sincere thanks to Director of Mission, Polly Marriott and Pastoral Coordinator, Natasha Harris, for their leadership and organisation of the event. Thanks also to our non teaching staff Rachael Adams and Caroline Woolley in particular, who contributed significantly to the organisation and success of the ceremony. The students were surprised on their exit from the chapel by the presence of our prep students who created a guard of honour as they left St Aloysius for the last time. It was a very beautiful and moving way to end the ceremony.
Huntingfield Campus Orientation Day
On Monday, 30th November, we welcomed over 150 new students from Grades 4-9 to the Huntingfield Campus on their Orientation Day.
Kingston Campus Orientation Day
Monday, 14th December will be the Orientation morning for our current Kindergarten to Grade 3 students. During the morning block students will ‘step-up’ to their class for 2021. It will be an opportunity to meet their teacher and classmates for next year. We look forward to welcoming new students to the Campus on this day.

Christmas Craft
With the help of Julie Hoddy, our Grade 9 students with Ms Jones visited Miss Wheldon's Grade 2 class to decorate some beautiful ceramic Christmas gifts for parents and friends of Grade 2. We hope to continue the tradition and open it up to other classes and grades next year.
Thanksgiving Liturgy and Awards Presentation Ceremony
Please see the attached letter for information regarding the upcoming Thanksgiving Liturgy & Awards Presentation Ceremony on Thursday, 17th December.
The Annual Art Exhibition
Normally at this time of the school year, we would be inviting families to the Mosaic exhibition held at the College. Due to COVID, the art department has decided to offer an online exhibition showcasing the student's work. As you will see, we have an exceptional creative display of our students' work closely supported by the staff at the College.
Although disappointed we couldn't offer an exhibition to view in person we feel this online gallery does do justice to the work the students have created over the span of the year.
You will find the exhibition on the College website under the Current Families tab.
Uniform Shop
As families would be aware, all students moving across from Grade 4 to Grade 5 at the Huntingfield Campus will need to wear a blazer as part of their formal uniform. We have most sizes in stock currently, and will be taking orders for sizes we don’t have, which should be arriving soon. As a blazer is a more costly item, layby is always an option we offer.
Back to School sales in January will be operating a bit differently this year. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be unable to have the shop open for walk in fittings/purchases as has happened in the past. Instead, we will be open for Qkr order collections and exchanges only. This means you can purchase your order via the Qkr app and come and collect from the Uniform Shop. If you need to exchange any items for different sizes, you will be able to do this also. Change rooms will not be available. See below for dates and further details.
Hot Shots Tennis
As part of the HPE program in Term one, students from Prep to Grade 6 participated in a Hot Shots tennis unit. Tennis Australia, in conjunction with ANZ, provided our students with a free Hot Shots tennis racquet. The racquets were recently presented to our Prep students by Alyssa Hibberd from Tennis Tasmania.
Grade 2
Students in Grade 2 have been learning about different styles of Aboriginal artwork. They learnt about the common themes of sky, land and sea that are often represented in Aboriginal art. The students created several pieces of artwork focusing on symbols, colours, Australian animals and patterns. They created x-ray art, dot paintings with Austraian animals on canvas, symbol pictures and sand art. As a culminating activity, the students were treated to a kelp weaving activity with Aboriginal local (and Hanna's mum) Michelle Synnott. The students all had a wonderful time with Michelle making a mobile each from the kelp and shells.
Grade 3/4 Choir
The Grade 3 and 4 choir would like to sing for you Hakuna Matata from the Lion King. This video was recorded on 12th November at our rehearsal. Mrs VanTienan is playing the piano and Ms Leitch is conducting. Thanks to Bella and Elly for filming it!
7HOFM Visit
Last week, Mrs Su Heyward and her Grade 5 class had a surprise visit from Mick and Sarah from 7HOFM. Su was the winner of the Apple for the Teacher competition and, to coincide with National Fairy Bread day, Mick and Sarah stopped by the College to give Su and her students their prizes which of course included fairy bread!
Collection of Artwork
After a fantastic year of superb work, Art, Photgraphy, Ceramic and Sculpture students can now start taking their work home to share with their families.
Muso's Corner
In this newsletter, Sebastian Sabol’s composition is featured. Sebastian is a Grade 8 elective musician. For this assessment, students were given the task of creating a short piece of music based on sound manipulation. Sebastian had been experimenting with an audio looping pedal on his guitar. He used this type of technique by overdubbing a number of guitar tracks that he performed. Electronic effects such as delay and panning were added to give more resonance to the original material.
Solar Car Challenge
On Saturday, 21st November a group of Grade 7 students participated in the annual Tasmanian Model Solar Car Challenge (TMSC) held at Clarence High School.
The TMSC is an exciting hands-on STEM competition for schools. It helps link concepts learnt in the classroom with the physical world and acts as an effective motivator for students to become, or remain, engaged in the areas of Science, Engineering and Technology.
The students designed, built and raced a model car that's powered by nothing more than direct sunlight. That means no batteries or any other energy storage systems.
The weather was perfect on the day, very sunny which made for some very fast racing.
Thank you to Mr Russell Joyce, Mr Michael O'Donnell and Mrs Julie Hoddy who supported the students on the day.
Storytelling Showcase
On Thursday, 26th November, two of our Grade 6 students, Imogen Martini and Simon MacFarlane, attended an awards ceremony for the CET Storytelling Showcase. The Storytelling Showcase was a state-wide writing competition, and Imogen and Simon were shortlisted for awards. The ceremony was held at St Mary’s College in the south of the state and St Thomas More’s in the north. All attendees were connected by Zoom. Impressively, Simon was awarded with an honourable mention for his story titled, Long Overview and Imogen was placed second in the state with her effort, The Time Travelling Bookcase.
Congratulations to Simon and Imogen! You are wonderful representatives of our College and we are very proud of you.
Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal
Last year, Vinnies provided gifts and hampers for 600 families across southern Tasmania. These hampers go to some of the most vulnerable people in the community. Donations of hamper items are greatly appreciated and are packed and distributed to local recipients by our own Kingston Vinnies Conference according to individual/family situations and needs.
Kingborough Helping Hands Sharing Tree
Every child deserves a happy Christmas and, by contributing to the Kingborough Helping Hands tree outside of Woolworths Channel Court Kingston, you'll be ensuring that those who arent as fortunate have something to enjoy on Christmas Day. If you are unable to make it to Channel Court, we have our own Sharing Trees set up in the foyer of the Kingston and Huntingfield Campuses and all donations are passed on to Edna and her team at KHH at the end of Term. If you are able to donate, please do. We promise it will make your own Christmas feel more special too!
The College is happy to share some relevant parenting topics in each newsletter for parents and families to watch or read and reflect.
