Christ come into our world of darkness
Light up our lives with your coming
Fulfil all our longings with the joy of your birth
Strengthen our resolve to work for change in our world
And to share the hope of your birth that each ADVENT brings
Amen
In coming to the end of this challenging and different year, it is timely to reflect on all that has contributed to our journey. Whilst this year may not have unfolded as we would have imagined, and there is disappointment in all the might have been - there is much for which to be thankful. Our students and staff have certainly learnt new ways of doing things, they have learnt new skills and have had experiences which have brought them closer to each other. They have become learners who are flexible, creative and resilient - all fine qualities.
A sense of joy accompanies this end of the year as we reflect on all we have achieved both personally and as a College - all when managing a pandemic. We sincerely thank our students, staff and parent community for your ongoing support throughout this year, but especially during the Learning@ Home phase. Since our return, we have appreciated your compliance with the many restrictions we have had to put in place. We remain hopeful that next year will see us move back closer to normalcy.
Staff Farewells
A number of staff are leaving us this year. Some of these staff have been at St Aloysius for a number of years and others on short term contracts. We thank each of them for their service and their unique contributions to the community at SACC and wish them well in their future careers.

Kingston Campus Orientation
On Monday, students experienced our ‘Step Up’ morning where they moved to their 2021 classes and met their new classmates and teacher/s for next year. There was much excitement as they learnt about what they will experience next year and checked out their classrooms. We also welcomed a number of new families to the College, we hope they will enjoy their journey at St Aloysius.
Kingston Campus Athletic Carnival
Following our Step Up morning, our Kindergarten students participated in their Athletics Carnival on the top oval. The very warm weather was such a contrast to last year when we had to cancel due to rain! Kindergarten enjoyed the opportunity to be together as a cohort - this is the only day in the year when all three classes come together.
Our Prep to Grade 2 Athletics Carnival was held on the top oval on Wednesday. Thank you to Mrs White for your excellent organisation. The carnival was a lot of fun and students enjoyed competing for their house.
Thanksgiving Liturgy and Awards Ceremony
This morning, the College celebrated the achievements of a number of students in the annual Thanksgiving Liturgy and Awards Ceremony. Fr Chris Hope led the liturgy for the last time in his role as Parish Priest for our community. Both he and Joe Sandric were formally farewelled at the ceremony by students and staff. Sadly, it was not possible to invite parents to the event this year, due to Covid restrictions. However, the event was filmed and will be accessible to the community later this week.
The Grade 10 student leaders for 2021 were inducted into their new roles at the ceremony and the Grade 10s were farewelled by all of their peers.
Many staff and students participated in the ceremony or were involved in the organisation and preparation. We thank everyone who contributed today.

The Annual Art Exhibition
Normally at this time of the school year, we would be inviting families to the Mosaic exhibition held at the College. Due to COVID, the art department has decided to offer an online exhibition showcasing the student's work. As you will see, we have an exceptional creative display of our student's work closely supported by the staff at the College.
Although disappointed we couldn't offer an exhibition to view in person we feel this online gallery does do justice to the work the students have created over the span of the year.
You will find the exhibition on the College website under the Current Families tab.
Uniform Shop
As families would be aware, all students moving across from Grade 4 to Grade 5 at the Huntingfield Campus will need to wear a blazer as part of their formal uniform. We have most sizes in stock currently, and will be taking orders for sizes we don’t have, which should be arriving soon. As a blazer is a more costly item, layby is always an option we offer.
Back to School sales in January will be operating a bit differently this year. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be unable to have the shop open for walk in fittings/purchases as has happened in the past. Instead, we will be open for Qkr order collections and exchanges only. This means you can purchase your order via the Qkr app and come and collect from the Uniform Shop. If you need to exchange any items for different sizes, you will be able to do this also. Change rooms will not be available. See below for dates and further details.
Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award
Congratulations to the students who completed the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award this year. They were presented with their certificates at the recent assembly.
Kinder
The Kinder students have had a very busy last two weeks of term. They held their Nativity plays, they participated in their Athletics Carnival and there was even a visit from a very special person in red.
Grade 1 Blue
Grade 1 Blue created a tree using warm and cool colours with oil pastels during our art lesson.
Grade 2
Grade 2 students have been creating Nativity pictures. The students carefully followed step by step instructions using soft oil pastels to create the beautiful Christmas art.
Grade 3 Bruny Island Excursion
The first thing we did was go to the Truganini Lookout. Grade 3 had recess on the beach and we got to play while they waited to go up the Truganini Lookout. At Truganinis Lookout it started to rain as soon as one group went up and when they got down it stopped.
Next, we went on a bushwalk at Adventure Bay. Some kids saw a lizard and screamed even though it was 10 centimetres long. Once we had done some of the bushwalks we had a break and sat down on rocks close to the ocean. We saw an ant that was stuck with another ant. When we had finished the bushwalk most of our legs were very tired.
Then we went to a park and had a small snack. Then had a play in the playground. After we played in the playground we all got chips and tomato sauce.
Abby McShane and Phoebe Ashlin

Grade 5/6 Drama Performance

Grade 9 Activities Week
Over the last two weeks of term students in Grade 9 had the opportunity to participate in various activities including swimming, standup paddle boarding, bushwalking, kayaking, surfing, mountain biking and roller skating.
Watch the video below to see what an amazing time the students had.
Grade 9 Fusion Day
On Wednesday, 16th December Grade 9 students participated in a series of team building activities. The aim was to bring the year group together and focus on a positive mindset and personal growth opportunities.
Oval Upgrade
The HC football oval has been getting a makeover. New drainage work will help to stop the ground being soggy and flooded so that it can be used by the College community all year round.
The SETUP for Success 'Explorers' program celebrated the end of a very different year, with parties at Dru Point last Thursday and Friday. We felt blessed to be able to come together, with just a few slight adjustments to our usual party activities, such as cotton bud face painting and individually wrapped cake, to maintain Covid safety requirements. Each child was given a bubble wand so we had bubbles floating all over the playground.
Our Explorers sessions have continued to grow, with 4 sessions running this year. We are grateful to families for following our registration process this year. This will most likely continue in 2021 and our session times will most likely stay the same, Pre-Kinder sessions will continue to run at 9:00 am Thursdays.
We will not start a new registration process until the last week of January 2021, when we can confirm the registration process and session times. Information will be sent out via email and Facebook.
Any families wishing to join the Explorers program can email Mrs Reece (andrea.reece@catholic.tas.
Merry Christmas to all our College and Explorers families from team Explorers

The aim of the Community Group is not only to fundraise but to build a community within the College. The Community Group is keen to have as many people involved as possible and are always open to new ideas and suggestions to help build and support our Community.

Christmas Masses and Parish Nativity
This year, due to Covid, the Archdiocese is running a booking system for attendance at Christmas Masses. If you wish to attend Christmas Mass in the Kingston-Channel Parish please contact the Parish office on 6229 1280 (Wed-Fri, 9:30am-1:30pm). This year there will be an additional Mass at 8:30am on Christmas morning at the Church of Christ the Priest. This is to allow for a greater spread of numbers to accommodate social distancing at what is a very busy time.
Christmas Masses (at Christ the Priest, Kingston unless otherwise stated) are as follows:
24th Dec - 6:00pm - Family Mass & Children's Nativity - the church is fully subscribed so the Nativity and Mass will be live streamed to the Sisters of Charity Centre.
24th Dec - 10:30pm - Night Mass - Carols start at 10:00pm
25th Dec - 8:30am - Held at St Mary's, Snug
25th Dec - 8:30am
25th Dec - 10:00am
If your child would like to be a part of the Parish Children's Nativity, please contact Polly Marriott on pauline.marriott@catholic.tas.edu.au. Rehearsals are Wednesday 23rd December 4:00pm and arrival at 5:00pm on Thursday 24th December.
Please note, the 6:00pm Christmas Family Mass is already fully subscribed. However, if you would like to attend you are able to watch this Mass from via live stream to the Sisters of Charity Centre. Please contact the Parish Office or put your name on the list at the back of the church after weekend Masses to secure a place.
Cloak of Kindness
After the recent vandalism of the statue of Our Lady in the prayer garden, the Kingston students of St Aloysius Catholic College have all contributed to a 'cloak of kindness' by writing and drawing messages of love and compassion. Mary has been wrapped in this beautiful cloak until repairs are able to be carried out. Thank you to Laura Lane (Kingston Teacher) for the idea and for Hannah Donovan (Parish Associate) for bringing it to life.
Parish Associates
At the end of term, we say a huge thank you and farewell to Parish Associate Robert Elkerton who is moving to Melbourne to continue his university studies. Hannah Donovan will be continuing her Parish Associate role in 2021 and will be joined by another former student, Dan Prichard. We look forward to building on the successes of Hannah and Robert this year and strengthening College-Parish connections and youth engagement opportunities.
Advent Appeals
For the final two weeks of the term, we have been running two Advent appeals. This concludes our charitable giving for the year and I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and kindness so far in what has been a challenging year for many.
This Advent we are supporting 2 charities: Vinnies Christmas Hampers and the Kingborough Helping Hands Sharing Tree. Both of these organisations assist those who are lonely, vulnerable and disadvantaged in our local community.
This has been promoted as a great opportunity to discuss the true meaning of Christmas with your children and model the Spirit of Jesus by giving for the sake of giving to those who need it most.
