PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE

Eamonn_Pollard.jpg

Welcome back

After much reflection and planning by all of us, it is lovely to have our students back at the College and to be back in the school routine. The best part of working in schools is working with young people in our care. The start has been smooth and students seem to be connected and engaged. I am very grateful for the warm welcome I have received from staff, students, parents and the St Aloysius community generally. Just today at recess I was playing handball with some of the students and they were conspiring not to get me out. I am certainly blessed to be a part of this community.

We give a very warm welcome to our new students this year:

What is Education?

The word education is derived from the Latin word educare, to ‘lead out’. The idea of education as drawing out what is within may sound a little odd, but the longer I am involved in education, the more I think there is truth to it. As teachers we want, in a sense, to ‘light fires’ in students, to draw out a passion for a particular area, whether it be maths or drawing or soccer or something else. Finding this passion not only helps with seeking career paths but also simply makes life that much more joyful when you realise you have a love for something.

Best Wishes

Every good wish for a positive and successful year.
