COVID-19 Mandatory requirements

From 1st May 2021, it will be mandatory that the Check in Tas app and QR Code is the ONLY method of sign-in used to record attendance at College events.  This excludes everyday activities at the College; visitors are still required to use the Compass portal unless they are visiting for a specific event.

Check-in Tas is the app designed by the government to contact trace in the event of a positive Covid-19 case.

Visitors must download the Check-in Tas App and scan the QR code to register their attendance.  If visitors do not have the app, then we must provide a means of accessing the Check-in Tas app.  Contact details are not to be recorded using a pen and paper except when there is no internet coverage and hence the Check-in Tas app cannot be used.

We have three site-specific QR codes Please find attached information on how to download the app.

Project 23

Over recent weeks, all Year 9 students have visited the Senior Campus and have had many of their questions, which emerged from the recently conducted student survey, answered.  We hope that this may support them in their future planning and decision making in relation to Senior College choices.  We have also been working with GYC on the provision of opportunities for ongoing support and mentoring of SACC staff.  Over the rest of this year and into 2022, interested teachers of TASC subjects will be given the opportunity to attend GYC and shadow a colleague in that discipline to gain a deeper appreciation of pedagogical approaches, TASC expectations, assessment practices etc.  Work is also continuing on a Senior Subject Handbook that will contain pathways information in the form of lists of TASC courses, as well as possible future career paths related to particular areas of study.

To keep up to date on the progress of the Grade 11 - 12 extension you can sign up to receive the CET Towards 23 newsletter here -

Student Achievement

Dylan and Tayla Crack

Brother and sister gymnasts Dylan (Grade 10) and Tayla (Grade 8) have been representing Tasmania in gymnastic competitions.

Dylan has just competed at the Australian gymnastics championships in Trampoling held at the Gold Coast.  Dylan was successful in coming home with the National 6 Men's Double Mini Trampoline Champion Title and a Gold Medal. Dylan needed to get a qualifying score to be selected and this was his 4th time attending National titles. Dylan trains 9.5 hours a week at the Kingborough Sports Centre.

Tayla is a level 7 gymnast who does 18 hours of gymnastics a week.  Tayla recently competed in the Tas club competition in Devonport which she had to finish in the top 6 in the state and get a qualifying score.  She has been selected to go to a National Gymnastics competition called the Bigham cup for Level 7 which will be held in Darwin in August.

Isabella Oakley
Congratulations to Grade 8 student Bella Oakley who was named as a finalist in the Youth Volunteer Awards.

The Youth Volunteer Award recognises the positive difference young volunteers between 0-25 years old make to Tasmania. Young volunteers contribute to our communities in many ways. From sports and the arts to health care to emergency services, to social welfare and the environment, young volunteers play an active role in every aspect of community life.

Although Bella didn't win, the College is incredibly proud of her achievements.

Variety Fundraising

Early this year I made the decision to chop my hair off and donate it to Variety - the Children’s Charity.   I donated 40cm of hair which is roughly seven years of hair growth. My hair will be used to make wigs for children who have lost theirs due to a medical condition.

Variety helps thousands of children who are sick, disadvantaged, or have special needs to live, laugh and learn through various grants and programs including granting wigs to children that have lost their hair due to a medical condition, for example, alopecia and cancer. Wigs give these children more confidence and better self-esteem so they can feel like themselves again. Unfortunately, wigs can cost thousands and last only 1-2 years.

The College held a morning tea where staff donated $295.  Thank you to Mrs Natasha Harris for organising this and the VET students for providing the coffees. $145 was raised by a sausage sizzle for the students organised by Mr Martin McManus.

My fundraising goal was $500 however, due to the generous community of St Aloysius and the public, I raised just over $1500.
