PARISH COMMUNITY AND OUTREACH

Sacrament of Confirmation Preparation

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation commences with Family Sessions on the 8th and the 19th of June. Thanks to all who attended the parent information session on Wednesday 19th May. We are looking forward to rolling out a new, vibrant and more interactive program in the parish. Please contact the Director of Mission, Polly Marriott, at pauline.marriott@catholic.tas.edu.au for more information.

Church Open Times

Fr Mike would like to let all families know that the Church of Christ the Priest is open all day for anyone wanting a quiet moment of prayer or peace before or after school drop off. It may be the only moment in the day that you get the chance! He also thanks the College community for his welcome to the parish and loves to hear the bright a cheery “Hello Fr Mike!”s as students pass through the church foyer on their way to and from school!

A message from Vinnies

Hey Families!

We are looking for anyone who has the time and ability to make meals for Kingborough Helping Hands. Kingborough Helping Hands is a not for profit organisation that works with people going through hardships in their life. Some things that they do for the community is that they give out hampers for the less fortunate, they have an annual Christmas fundraiser, Kingborough Louis Van and lots of other amazing things.  They were established in 2013 and they have been spreading their good works throughout Tasmania ever since. Edna Pennicott the founder has always been passionate about helping others and her good work has changed,  helped and inspired many people. We are asking those who can make frozen meals or even just frozen leftovers to please contact Edna on 0449110895 or at kingboroughhelpinghandsinc@gmail.com to help those less fortunate and those in need. A little goes a long way!

The word is out!

…On all the good works that St Aloysius Catholic College is doing in the community! On Tuesday, 25th May, ABC journalist Annah Fromberg and cameraman Chris came to film students involved in Vinnies and the Parish Youth Group as part of a special report on the Kingborough community coming up soon on the ABC. Edna Pennicott of Kingborough Helping Hands has been singing the praises of the College Community, in particular the home baking that is donated by the Junior Campus families and Middle Campus outreach groups. Thank you to all who are involved in this special outreach. Not only do our donations give financial support and physical nourishment but the gift of a home baked meal or treat made with love also sends a message of hope that there are those who care.

Celebrating 200 Years of Catholic Education Mass

On Monday, six students from St Aloysius Catholic College along with Father Mike and Mrs Marriott were part of the National Mass for the Bicentenary of Catholic Education in Australia on the Solemnity of Our Lady Help of Christians held at St Mary’s Cathedral in Hobart. It is amazing to be a part of 200 years of wonderful teaching and learning in Australia which started with Fr John Therry and a group of 31 students in Paramatta and has now grown to 1755 schools, 100000 staff and 777000 students!
