Duke Silver Camp

On 11th October, 17 of our students departed school for Cradle Mountain. On what was a very enjoyable bus ride with plenty of beautiful singing voices we arrived at the Cradle Mountain Discovery Park. After settling in, the group geared up for a walk to Marion's Lookout. Day 2 quickly arrived. We were off to Canyoning at Machinery Creek. From jumping off rocks to abseiling 20m through a waterfall, the Canyoning was cold and testing, however, rewarding to finish. As a group, we are so proud of every individual as we all faced different challenges throughout the day.

After Canyoning, a hot shower and dinner had never been so good. The group gathered around in the kitchen playing board games and storytelling every night. Day three brought on a change of plans as Blue Derby had predicted up to 70 ml of rain for the rest of the week, certainly not camping or bike riding weather. With the hard work from our organising staff and adaptive students, the group enjoyed another night at Cradle Mountain. Wednesday saw us take a trip into Sheffield to restock supplies, then complete the Dove Lake Walk and surrounding tracks back to a nearby discovery centre covering 15km throughout the day.

Thursday and our final day were at the Hollybank High Ropes Course. Another challenge for all of our students. The group worked well together through the rain and were full of encouragement. An unfortunate early ending to the camp certainly didn't hinder the positive spirit and determination of the group throughout the camp. Congratulations to all who completed the four day journey, as well as the staff who made it possible.
