COLLEGE NEWS

COMPASS

With the move to Compass for student reports we remind parents of the need to access Compass with the log in details that were sent home earlier in the year.  Further information about Compass can be found in the attached documents.

EXPLORERS

Explorers are back!  We are very excited to announce that the College's Explorers program will recommence in Term 3.  We look forward to welcoming our Explorers and their families back to the College.

LOST PROPERTY

We have recently been advised that students named uniform items have been misplaced.  Staff do their best to return the named clothing to students.  Can you please check that your uniform items are named and that the items belong to you?

A reminder that each campus office does have a collection of unnamed lost property items that both students and parents/guardians can come and check for any lost belongings.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on any students and students will not be involved in any testing process. The college will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government's Privacy Policy

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD website

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the College.

PLASTIC FREE JULY

This month is Plastic Free July. This is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution so we can have cleaner streets, oceans and beautiful communities.

We have a number of students keen to take up the challenge. It would be fantastic if families could get involved too. It doesn’t mean you have to go completely plastic free; you could just aim to cut out one thing; ditch disposable coffee cups and bring your own reusable cup, find plastic-free alternatives when buying fruit and veggies or bring your own reusable shopping bags and help reduce plastic waste.

If you are interested please contact Mrs Michelle Dance michelle.dance@catholic.tas.edu.au or you can sign up to the challenge below and you’ll be emailed tips and recipes throughout July.

If you don’t know where to start, attached is a list of ideas.

UNIFORM SHOP

As we are all aware, this year has certainly brought its challenges, and we have had a few in the uniform shop!

Firstly I would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who helped out in the back to school sales period.  We even had a parent help who is new to the college this year, along with seasoned volunteers, and some new faces.  All of these helpers are greatly valued and appreciated, and the shop could not operate in those busy periods without their help.

We started the year as usual welcoming many new families to the college and getting all students kitted out to begin the new year.  Our building extension we got last year was very welcome during this time.

Unfortunately we had long delays with a few items of uniform and we thank families for their patience and understanding during this time.

Then COVID-19 hit us, bringing with it many more delays for our orders.

As you would all be aware, overseas freight has been affected, which affects many of our custom made uniform items, bringing with it more delays.  Our bucket hats are still on their way.... (those who have purchased one will receive it in Term 3).

On the positive side, our new sports track pants and beanies have been very well received and it is great to see our students looking smart whilst keeping warm!  More stock of the track pants is also due to arrive during the term break, and those that have ordered will receive these when Term 3 commences.

SECOND HAND ITEMS FOR SALE

With the increase in popularity of social media and trading sites such as Gumtree and Facebook, we have made the decision to cease accepting items of uniform to sell on behalf of families.
The exception to this will be blazers which we will still accept and sell on families behalf. We will also still accept second hand items as a donation to the school.

Any items still in the shop from families will still be sold, but no new items will be taken on.

QKR

The Qkr app has become an easy and popular way to order uniform items, and we thank families who are already ordering this way.

Ordering via the app is easy, and the items will be sent to your child's classroom.  We can also arrange for any changes of sizes you may need by sending the item back to the shop via the office if needed.

Of course we also still welcome you into the shop!
