Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education

St Aloysius Catholic College is located on the traditional lands of the Melukerdee or Muwinina people of the South East Nation.
We acknowledge and deeply respect the Palawa people, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community, and all Elders past and present.

We are committed to learning alongside our students and community in this place and support the continued sharing of knowledge and Culture.

The Aboriginal Education program at St Aloysius Catholic College aims to help, support and connect Aboriginal students with their history and culture. This is partly done through camps and excursions throughout the year. With the help of cultural leaders, elders and knowledge holders, students are given a safe space to explore current events, aspects of their culture and history. In addition to supporting First Nations students, the Aboriginal Education program also plans and delivers a wide range of learning opportunities for ALL students. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are included, as cross curricular priorities, in many subjects across all year levels. The program ensures all students are given opportunities to enrich their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
