As you begin to think about your future, it’s important to understand that most employment opportunities today require at least Year 11 and 12 qualifications. That’s why your Career Education teachers are here to support you, helping you explore possible career paths, identify your interests and strengths, and plan your next steps.
Choosing Courses for Year 11 and 12
Planning your program isn’t about locking in a career, it’s about keeping your options open and preparing for your goals. Here’s how to get started:
To get an ATAR, you need to achieve at least Satisfactory Achievement (SA) in four, ideally five Level 3 or 4 courses. This can be completed in any two years post Year 10.
Course Options
You can mix and match courses. You may choose to do TASC courses or Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate courses or a combination of both. This is your learning journey. Your teachers are here to guide you, but ultimately the choices are yours.
Choosing Courses for Year 9 and 10
Deciding upon elective subjects for next year is a very important task. It is vital that you spend time carefully considering your options before you choose.
For 2026, students need to select three elective subjects from the subject list provided and detailed in this handbook.
Students and their parents are encouraged to attend the Year 9-12 Subject Information Evening to speak to Faculty Leaders and teachers about the courses that are offered.
Subject selection will open for students and their families on Wednesday, 4th June.
COURSE GUIDE COMING SOON!
In 2025, at St Aloysius Catholic College, elective courses are offered from Years 8 to 12. These courses aim to engage students in learning that extends their personal interests and skills. In later years, these subjects also provide learning pathways that link to future careers and post Year 12 education.
Electives are a range of courses that students select, to extend their learning beyond their core subjects. The College offers courses in the Arts, Technology, Physical Education, and academic extension courses. These courses aim to engage and motivate students, providing learning opportunities that develop skills or knowledge, that are of particular interest for each individual student.
Course content, time allocation, and the number of courses on offer vary from Years 8 to 12, and have been developed to suit the age and learning needs of each cohort of students.
